School has been in session for approximately one and a half weeks and it is now time for Open House. Last year we tried a new format and it was well received. For our 2010 Open House, parents will again go directly to their student’s first or third period classroom. There will not be a general meeting in the Multi-Purpose Room. This way you will have more time to meet your student’s teacher and learn about the curriculum. During your first classroom visit we will broadcast some important school wide information. We found that the broadcast format enhances the Open House experience. Open House for both nights will begin at 6:30. Please click on your student’s grade level Open House information for an outline of the evening’s schedule. Your student will bring home the exact classroom rotation you will need to follow that evening. Please remember that both September 1st and September 2nd are minimum days for all students. Students will be dismissed at 12:40 on both days.
Open House is a great time to find out about the grade level standards your student is expected to learn and each teacher’s classroom expectations. Open House is not a time for individual conferences. If you wish to discuss specific information about your student, our teachers will gladly schedule a meeting for a later day. I hope that you will take this opportunity to visit our beautiful campus and meet our wonderful teachers.

MINIMUM DAY AND SHOPPING CENTER PARENT REMINDER
Beattie Middle School students have been gathering and loitering unsupervised at the Stater Brother’s shopping center after school on minimum days. This has caused problems with our neighboring community. We are asking that all students go home after school before going to the shopping center. We are asking that no students be allowed to stop at the shopping center on their way home without an adult. As you are aware, it is our goal to have a positive relationship with the community that surrounds Beattie Middle School. With your help on this issue we can continue to reach that goal. We thank you for your assistance with this concern.
Parents – As you wait to pick-up your student at the end of the day; please do not block driveways or mailboxes in the surrounding neighborhood. Our school and community thank you for your attention to this concern.
If you drop your student off in the front parking lot in the morning, please pull all the way to the end of the drive way by the curb. By doing that, we can accommodate more cars in the parking lot and we will decrease the congestion on Orange Street. We also strongly suggest that you drop your student off behind the school in the Webster St. parking lot. There is a gate there which allows students direct access to our campus. No matter which parking lot you utilize, please drive slowly and cautiously. Thank you.

Bus Parking Area
At the end of the day, this area is off limits to all private vehicle traffic. Our buses must have a clear path to enter, load students and exit. As you head south on Orange Street into our front parking lot, please do not block the bus entry driveway. We thank you for your attention to this traffic flow concern.
Front Parking Lot
As you all know, this is a very busy area. Everyone dropping off or picking-up students must drive very cautiously. Please remind your student to enter and exit your vehicle carefully. They should not dart across the flow of traffic. They should make sure that all drivers see them before crossing to the front gate or exiting campus to your vehicle. And finally, we ask that all drivers exhibit a high level of patience. The safety of your student and all the students who attend Beattie is Key.
